Saying Goodbye to Pokey’s Junior Ranch Rodeo & 2015 Junior Ranch Rodeo Results
“Pokey” the Clown, aka Doug Smith, has long been a fixture at the World Championship Ranch Rodeo, having hosted his Junior Ranch Rodeo World Championship there for 18 years. Pokey is also a tireless fundraiser for the Working Ranch Cowboys Foundation. And while he will still continue his work for WRCF, Pokey is hanging up his spurs as far as the junior ranch rodeos.
Pokey’s retirement is a bitter-sweet moment for the ranching world. On one hand, it’d be hard to believe that anyone that knows him wants anything but the best for him. On the other, he will be greatly missed. Pokey is a true hero that has done a huge amount of good for the next generation of ranchers.
“It has been a fun 18-year run, but it is time to say so long to a fun event,” Pokey said. “I want to send out a big thank-you to the award sponsors for our World Championship Rodeo.” Those include the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum, Resistol Hats and Twisted X Boots.
“We also need to say thank you to the Working Ranch Cowboys Association for giving a home and place to the Junior Ranch Rodeo.”
