Wrangler Top Hand of the Week: Timber Holmquist
Timber Holmquist, who competed as part of the Cameron Livestock, LLC / Mike Oden Cattle Co. ranch rodeo team at the Lowell Goemmer Memorial Ranch Rodeo in Wickenburg, Arizona, on March 23, has been named the Wrangler Top Hand of the Week.
Holmquist took part in all five events—bronc riding, stray gathering, wild cow milking, maverick branding, and sorting—making his mark as a true all-around competitor and cementing his recognition as the rodeo’s Top Hand.
“I’m not too sure what the judges saw in me,” he laughs. “I just did every event to the best of my ability and did what needed to be done.”
Though he’s reluctant to brag on his own performance, Holmquist is quick to give credit to the horse he rode, a 12-year-old AQHA mare named “Klondike.”
“I’d say she played a pretty big part,” says Holmquist. “She did everything I asked her to, was always right there, and more than held up her end.”
A relative newcomer to Arizona’s desert climes, Holmquist has spent most of his cowboying life working in Montana and the Black Hills. For him, part of the appeal of ranch rodeos is having the opportunity to meet new, like-minded folks.
He says, “The best part of ranch rodeos is getting together with other cowboys and having a good time. Sure, it’s awfully fun to win, but it’s not about the money. It’s more fun just getting to know each other and have fun doing it.”
To recognize the talents of the working ranch cowboy, Wrangler will reward Holmquist for his Top Hand honors with a free pair of Wrangler jeans.
