Entering its 22nd year of the Working Ranch Cowboys Association’s sanctioned rodeo season, the excitement is greater than ever. Teams from across the United States will compete in 23 WRCA sanctioned rodeo events starting in Claremore, Oklahoma at the Green Country Classic Ranch Rodeo, April 28-29.See the complete 2017 Sanctioned Rodeo Schedule.
Each sanctioned rodeo is a chance for rodeo teams to punch their ticket to the 22nd World Championship Ranch Rodeo in Amarillo, Texas, November 9-12 at the Amarillo Civic Center.
What To Look For
Each rodeo features 5 events, including:
- Ranch Bronc Riding
- Team Penning
- Team Stray Gathering
- Team Branding
- Wild Cow Milking
WRCA Sanctioned Rodeos follow a classic Western Cowboy version of rodeo. This includes using real, everyday saddles, ropes, and other riding, and rodeo gear. This makes WRCA ranch rodeo action a must-see event. Cowboys in the WRCA rodeo arena emulate everyday activities from the ranch. This is no better shown than in Team Branding where a 4-man team of competing cowboys use flour to “brand” an assigned number cattle from a herd in the arena. Cowboys must show horsemanship, roping, speed, agility and improvisation to earn top scores. On top of team event scores, individual cowboys are also scored throughout each rodeo for Top Hand, and Top Horse.
